Description

Medium size butterfly. Fw: 21-30 mm.
Ups: dark brown gc, regular cream-white postdiscal bands.
Upf: very pale coastal margin, wide sex-brand.
Unh: cream white gc with large brown markings.
♀♀
Large butterfly. Fw: 28-34 mm.
Upf: less regular cream-white postdiscal bands.
Unh: mottled grey-brown gc.

None.
Life cycle
Adults: single generation from mid-June to September.
Egg: short stage.
Caterpillar: overwintering as small larva.
Pupa: short stage.
Habitat
Chazara briseis inhabits open rocky slopes with some bushes from 250 up to 1500 m a.s.l.
Spatial requirement is considerable, population density can be high.
Foodplants
Caterpillars feed on Bromopsis erecta, Bromus erectus and Festuca ovina, also mentioned are Brachypodium sp., carex ovalis, Festuca rubra, Lolium perenne, Sesleria albicans, S. caerulea, Poa sp. and Stipa sp.
Butterflies feed on a variety of low and high flowers.
Distribution
Albania: widespread in the mountains.
Balkan: AL - BG - BIH - GR - HR - NMK - MNE - RKS - RO - SLO - SRB
Europe: IB - IT - ALP - BAL - NWE* - UK - SCA - EEU*
Asia Minor, Near East*, Transcaucasia, Caucasus and further east.
Conservation status
Chazara briseis is not endangered.
