Description
♂♂
Small butterfly. Fw: 14-16 mm.
Ups: brown gc, unmarked.
Uns: grey or grey-brown, white ringed usual markings.
Unf: no cell-spot, postdiscal series of spots, marginal markings and submarginal lunules variable.
Unh: contrasting blue basal suffusion, series of regularly curved black postdiscal spots, orange submarginal lunules well developed, white streak along v5 from discal spot to postdiscal spots (sometimes inconspicuous)

Slightly larger.
Ups:brown gc.
Uph: often traces of submarginal lunules.
Uns: well developed markings.
Unh: white streak not always present

Similar species
None.

Life cycle
Adults: single generation from May to early August.
Egg: short stage.
Caterpillar: overwintering as young larva.
Pupa: probably short stage.

Habitat
Eumedonia eumedon inhabits warm, sheltered grasslands and clearings with abundant large-flowered Geranium sp.
Spatial requirement moderate, population density can be high.

Foodplants
Caterpillars feed mainly on Geranium sanguineum, also mentioned are G. cinereum, G. phaeum and G. tuberosum as well as Erodium sp.
Butterflies feed on a large variety of flowers, often on the foodplant.

Distribution
Albania: local in the mountains.
Balkan: AL - BG - BIH - GR - HR - NMK - MNE - RKS - RO - SLO - SRB
Europe: IB - IT* - ALP - BAL - NWE* - UK - SCA - EEU
Asia Minor, Near East, Transcaucasia, Caucasus and further east.

Conservation status
Eumedonia eumedon is not endangered.
Albanian red List: NE.
IUCN Red List, category at the Mediterranean level: LC.
