Description

Small buttefly. Fw: 12-14 mm.
Hw: short tail on v2.
Ups: gleaming purple-blue gc, well defined black marginal borders, unmarked.
Uns: dove-grey uns, white postdiscal line on unf and unh.
Unh: small (pale) orange spot at anal lobe and black centered orange spot near the tail.

Slightly larger.
Hw: short tail on v2.
Ups: dark gc, gleaming purple-blue area limited to cell and s1b.
Uns: more distinct submarginal markings.
Similar species
None.
Life cycle
Adults: single generation from June to August.
Egg: overwintering, often close to a terminal bud.
Caterpillar: 30-68 days.
Pupa: 18-22 days.
Habitat
Favonius quercus inhabits open dry or moist oakland and on isolated trees from lowland up to 1500 m a.s.l.
Spatial requirement modest, population density can be high in a prominent tree crown.
Foodplants
Caterpillars feed on Quercus sp.
Butterflies feed on honeydew and nectar of small flowers.

Albania: very local (more research needed)
Balkan: AL - BG - BIH - GR - HR - NMK - MNE - RKS - RO - SLO - SRB
Europe: IB - IT - ALP - BAL - NWE - UK - SCA* - EEU
Asia Minor, Near East, Transcaucasia, Caucasus and further east.
Conservation status
Favonius quercus is not endangered.
Albanian Red List: VU D1D2.
IUCN Red List, category at the Mediterranean level: LC.
