Small butterfly. Fw: 14-17 mm.

: bright fulvous, wide dark outer margin.

Life cycle
Adults: single generation from mid-May to mid-August.
Egg: 7-18 days.
Caterpillar: feeding till september, overwintering as L3 or L4 larva, after overwintering feeding till pupation.
Pupa: 15-27 days.
Habitat
Ochlodes sylvanus inhabits sunny, grass banks and meadows near forests, glades and in clearings. Often found in damp habitats from lowland up to 2000 m a.s.l.
Spatial requirement low in the beginning of the flight time, later inclined to nomadism, population density moderate.
Foodplants
Caterpillars have been found on a large series of grasses: Juncus effusus, Luzula pilosa, Agrostis sp., Alopecurus pratensis, Brachypodium sp., Bromus sp., Calamagrostis sp., Cynodon dactylon, Dactylis glomerata, Danthonia decumbens, Deschampsia cespitosa, Elymus repens, Glyceria fluitans, Holcus lanatus, Lolium sp., Molinea caerulea, Phalaris arundinacea, Phleum pratense, Phragmites australis, Piptatherum miliaceum and Poa sp.
Butterflies have a long proboscis and can feed on a large variety of flowers. Regularly seen on Rubus sp., often abundant in a typical habitat.

Conservation status
Ochlodes sylvanus is not endangered.
