Description
♂♂
Small butterfly. Fw: 14-15 mm.
Ups: usually grey-yellowish rather than brown gc.
Upf: three whitish spots near apex and conspicuous tranparent discal spot.
Uph: well developed pale discal and submarginal markings.
Unf: prominent hair-tuft.
Unh: pale-grey gc with obscure white markings.

Sligthly larger than ♂♂.
Otherwise similar.
Similar species
Muschampia lavatherae

gc light olive-brown.

Life cycle
Adults: two to three generations from April to September.
Egg: short stage.
Caterpillar: overwintering as full-grown caterpillar.
Pupa: short stage.
Habitat
Muschampia orientalis inhabits dry, hot, flowery meadows in mountainous country up to 1000 m a.s.l.
Spatial requirement considerable, population density low.
Foodplants
Caterpillars feed mainly on Stachys sp., also mentioned is Ballota nigra.
Butterflies feed on a large variety of flowers.

Albania: local.
Balkan: AL - BG - BIH - GR - HR - NMK - MNE - RKS - RO - SLO - SRB
Europe: IB - IT - ALP - BAL - NWE - UK - SCA - EEU*
Asia Minor, Near East, Caucasus, Transcaucasia and further east.
Conservation status
Muschampia orientalis is not endangered.
Albanian Red List: NE.
IUCN Red List, category at the Mediterranean level: LC.
