Description

Small butterfly. Fw: 14-15 mm. Larger than Spialia orbifer.
Upf: complete large white markings, base of costa white.
Uph: discal spot large, rectangular, well marked submarginal spots.
Unh: pale olive-grey gc.
♀♀
Slightly larger, similar markings.
Similar species
All Pyrgus species
Upf: two outwards displaced pd spots.
Spialia orbifer
Smaller Spialia.

No white base of costa.
Smaller white spots.

Small, white discal spot.

Life cycle
Adults: single generation from June to end-July.
Egg: short stage.
Caterpillar: overwintering as L3 larva and feeding again in spring.
Pupa: short stage.
Habitat
Spialia phlomidis inhabits open, hot rough places and rocky slopes and can be found from lowland up to 2000 m a.s.l.
Spatial requirement modest, population density sometimes high.
Foodplants
Caterpillars feed on Convolvulus sp.
Butterflies actively nectaring on a variety of lower flowers.

Albania: local (more research needed)
Balkan: AL - BG - BIH - GR - HR - NMK - MNE - RKS - RO - SLO - SRB
Europe: IB - IT - ALP - BAL - NWE - UK - SCA - EEU
Asia minor and further east.
Conservation status
Spialia phlomidis is not endangered.
Albanian Red List: NE.
IUCN Red List, category at the Mediterranean level: LC.
