Small butterfly. Fw: 18 mm.
Ups: sulphur-yellow gc.
Upf: large black discal spot, dark apex with diffuse yellow spots.
Unf: red marginal lines, uniform green apex.
Unh: green-grey mottled gc, with few paler markings.

Similar size.
Upf: more pronounced black discal spot.
Otherwise similar to ♂♂.
Similar species
None.
Life cycle
Adults: one long prolonged generation to two generations (second partial), from April to early August.
Egg: short stage.
Caterpillar: short stage.
Pupa: overwintering.
Habitat
Euchloe penia inhabits open, dry, warm rocky places, usually on calcareous soils from 700 m to 1500 m a.s.l. or higher.
Spatial requirment low, population density can be high.
Foodplants
Caterpillars feed on Matthiola fruticulosa and Hesperis laciniata.
Butterflies feed on a large variety of low flowers.

Albania: very local (more research needed)
Balkan: AL - BG - BIH - GR - HR - NMK - MNE - RKS - RO - SLO - SRB
Europe: IB - IT - ALP - BAL - NWE - UK - SCA - EEU
Asia Minor and Near East.
Conservation status
Euchloe penia is not endangered, limited to southern Balkan peninsula.
Albanian Red List: VU.
IUCN Red List, category at the Mediterranean level: LC.
