Description

Medium size butterfly. Fw: 20-24 mm.
Ups: white gc.
Upf: narrow black discal spot, dark shaded near the costa.
Unf: white centered discal spot, apex green markings present.
Unh: extensive green, slightly yellow powdered, markings.

Slightyly larger.
Upf: discal spot larger.
Uph: faint yellowish gc.
Similar species
Life cycle
Adults: two generations (second partial) from March to June.
Egg: short stage.
Caterpillar: short stage.
Pupa: overwintering.
Habitat
Euchloe ausonia inhabits open, dry areas with abundant flowers, often near agricultural land from lowland up to 1300 m a.s.l.
Spatial requirment moderate to high, population density rarely high, nomadic.
Foodplants
Caterpillars feed on different Brassicaceae: Aethionema saxatile, Biscutella laevigata, Brassica nigra, Bunias erucago, Iberis sempervirens, Sinapis sp. and Sisymbrium sp.
Butterflies feed on a large variety of flowers.
Distribution
Albania: widespread.
Balkan: AL - BG - BIH - GR - HR - NMK - MNE - RKS - RO - SLO - SRB
Europe: IB - IT - ALP - BAL - NWE - UK - SCA - EEU*
Asia Minor, Near East, Transcaucasia, Caucasus and further east.
Conservation status
Euchloe ausonia is not endangered.
