Description
♂♂
Small to medium size. Fw: 19-23 mm. The smallest Pieris.
Ups: white gc.
Upf: predominantly grey, square apical mark, faint or absent postdiscal spot in s3.
Uph: often no small grey mark on costa in s6.
Unf: yellowish apical area, no dark spot (pattern from ups may show through)
Unh: yellowish, lightly grey dusted.

Similar size.
Ups: sometimes with a pale yellowish gc on uph.
Upf: larger grey, square apical mark,two postdiscal spots (very marked in summer generations)
Unh: costal spot in s6.
Similar species
Life cycle
Adults: two or three generation from April to August.
Egg: probably short stage.
Caterpillar: probably short stage.
Pupa: overwintering.
Habitat
Pieris ergane inhabits dry, hot rocky places with scattered bushes from lowland up to 1800 m a.s.l.
Spatial requirment moderate, population density can be high.
Foodplants
Caterpillars feed on Aethionema sp., often Aethionema saxatile, also on Isatis tinctoria.
Butterflies feed on a large variety of flowers.
Distribution
Albania: widespread in the mountains.
Balkan: AL - BG - BIH - GR - HR - NMK - MNE - RKS - RO - SLO - SRB
Europe: IB* - IT - ALP* - BAL - NWE - UK - SCA - EEU
Asia Minor, Near East and further east.
Conservation status
Pieris ergane is not endangered.
Albanian Red List: NE.
IUCN Red List, category at the Mediterranean level: LC.
